It has long come to my attention that my shopping experience tends to be different than that of friends because I apparently have more curves than the “average” woman by “American Standards”. In the past, The Gap had only made plus size clothing available to customers online–causing returns on plus size clothing to only be possible via online. What a hassle! Finally, there’s a been a movement that may be the beginning of the end of this unfair practice!
In response to a recent Change.org petition, Gap Inc. (GPS)‘s Old Navy has announced that beginning December 5th they will allow Plus Size returns via their brick-and-mortar stores.
Additionally, the company promises to form a customer panel in January 2015 “to gather insights that will further enhance our plus size collections.” Hopefully they will hear and take into consideration the voice of their consumers.
The retailer did not indicate plans to change the fact that women’s plus size clothing is priced higher while men’s plus size clothing is not. Old Navy stands behind its belief that the clothing is “priced differently because it is different.”
We are hoping this causes the fashion industry to take a closer look at the possibilities of lowering the higher price of women’s plus size clothing in general.
